In 2009, I went on a weeklong tour of the UK with three musicians who wanted me to record and photograph every single gig and drunken night out there was. I’d never really done anything like it before and despite it using up precious holiday time jumped at the chance. It was on that tour I learnt the basics to what has become another skill in my bow.
Starting off with a entry level DSLR, I taught myself how best to manage light, what compositions work, how to make a picture feel energised, capture the mood and most importantly how to work within three song limits they always impose at big gigs and festivals.
I have since gone onto photograph some of the biggest names in UK music, including Disclosure, Rudimental, Wild Beasts and many, many others but I still class myself as an amateur. Despite the improvements in my skill, equipment and software I have so much more to learn and other types of photography to master.
All pictures were taken on my Nikkon D90 with a 50mm f1.4 lens and without using a flash. Please contact me via email if you’d live me to photograph your club night or gig.
